Small Italian Vineyards Wine Tasting and Dinner. October 8th.

Viva Italia! I am so excited about tomorrow night. Thomas from Noble Distributing and Kristin from Small Vineyards will be on sight pouring some amazing Italian Wines from the Small Vineyards Portfolio. Each of the wines we’ll be pouring is a fabulous representation of wines produced by small wineries (each produce less than 500 cases) discovered by Tom Kelly and his staff at Small Vineyards. We’ll be pouring the Perazzeta Erio, Arcangelo Primitivo, Le Rote Chianti and Poggio Nibbiale in addition to our shop favorite Marchetti Verdicchio. Join us from 5 to 8 as Kristin and Thomas share stories about the wine makers and their families and experience these fabulous wines, all of which by the way are priced less than $18/bottle.

Fall is definitely in the air. The acorns are falling off the trees outside the shop and leaves are starting to turn. I love this time of year – football, crisp morning air and red wine……lots of red wine!

So to carry out that theme we’ll be pouring some new finds from around the world this Friday. I’ve selected the Whoop Whoop Shiraz (yes, I did say Whoop! Whoop!), Heartland Stickleback Red, Dona Paula Malbec (rated 91 points by Wine Spectator), Mercer Dead Canyon and Almira Los Dos Grenache-Syrah – all fabulous selections under $20.

Join us Friday evening from 5 to 8 for wine tasting, dinner and live music by local musician Mike Randall

Stop in for wine tasting, and stay for dinner where I’ll whip up:

Served over garlic smashed potatoes or egg noodles
Apertif: The ‘wedge’ salad
Dessert: Caramel apple cheesecake bars

Osso Bucco Cooking Class, October 21st. 7 PM, $45 person

Whether you have mastered the technique of slow cooking or still haven’t taken the time to experiment – October’s cooking class will teach you the art of Osso Buco. Traditional Osso Buco is made from a veal shank. I’ve discovered however, that a pork shank works just as well, is much less expensive and still reveals the same rich and moist flavors that a traditional veal shank does. We’ll pair the Osso Buco with creamy polenta, traditional Caesar salad (made from scratch dressing) and (of course) some Italian wine!

Decoy Wine Tasting. Friday, September 24th. 5 – 8 PM

I’m so excited about the wine tasting and dinner that we have planned for this week. Brian from Vehrs will be at K’Syrah pouring a fabulous line-up of wines by Decoy – the second label for Duckhorn Winery. Duckhorn is famous for their Merlots and with the prevailing economy have created some value-priced wines represented by their Decoy label. The wines express considerable sophistication and elegance. Fruit aficionados will find a wealth of blackberries, cherries and cocoa in their blend and Zin, while structuralists will like the firm tannins and acids. We’ll be pouring the Decoy Sauv Blanc, Merlot, Zin, Red Blend and Pinot Noir. This tasting is not to be missed!

Stop in for wine tasting from 5 to 8:30 PM, and stay for dinner where I’ll whip up:

Brian Carter Wine Dinner, Saturday, September 25th

Join us Saturday, September 25^th at 7pm for the Brian Carter Cellars Wine Dinner. We’ll be pouring six of his exquisite wines which will be paired with 5-courses. Mike Stevens from Brian Carter will be hosting the evening to share stories about the winemaker and his wine making experiences, and information about the wines. We’ll also offer 10% off wines purchased that evening.

The sun has peaked out of the clouds and I am praying for a little sunshine because I have an abundance of green tomatoes in my garden. I also have an abundance of random wines on my shelves right now so I have decided to make our line-up of tasting wines this week a random selection of some of my favorites. We’ll taste the Barnard Griffin Syrah, Castle Rock Petit Syrah, McManis Syrah, Apothic Red and Nobilo Sauvingon Blanc. All of these wines are value priced under $15 and are perfect for everyday drinking and casual entertaining. To accompany our wine tasting this week we’ll serve a random menu of some of our food favorites.

Dessert: Banana Cream Pie

School is back and the salmon are still running. I felt it was appropriate to pull the barbeque out at least one more time and grill our House Special Cedar Plank Salmon. To pair with the salmon I’ve chosen a diverse selection of Pinots. We’ll pour two luscious selections from Lemilson Vineyards in the Willamette Valley (Thea’s Vineyard and Six Vineyards), Castle Rock Willamette Valley Pinot, Hob Nob (a French Pinot) and Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio. It’s going to be a great evening of wine and food!

Come to experience some wonderful new wines, and stay for dinner to see how nicely they pair with:

Served with: Wild rice pilaf, garlic and olive oil sauteed green beans
Apertif: Strawberry spinach salad
Dessert: Maryhill peach-filled crepes

Join us this First Friday for Art-Women and Wine. We’ll have the pleasure of featuring “Art by Jan Marie” and music by Charlie Jenkins (a classic acoustic guitarist – you may be familiar with Charlie when he played at Blackstone). And even more importantly we’ll have Chris Kinney from Vehrs on site pouring selections from the Mondavi family of wines. We have some wines and summer merchandise on sale. Come and enjoy the festivities from 5 – 8 pm.

Slow braised pork loin, shredded and served with Southern Comfort BBQ sauce, over a bed of smashed sweet potatoes and jalapeno creamed corn.
